SPGR as an instrument

SPGR as an instrument is based on more than 60 years of research. Leading researchers both from the Western world and Asia have contributed to the theoretical and methodological foundation of the instrument.

Professor Robert Freed Bales work at Harvard University on interpersonal interaction in groups had great influence on research on groups all over the world. Introducing tools like IPA (Interaction Process Analysis), VCA (Value Content Analysis) and SYMLOG (SYstematic Multiple Level Observation of Groups) he inspired practitioners and scolars all over the world. In the mid 1980 SYMLOG was almost the standard method for group research by the leading universities in USA and Europe. Bales thinking and some of his ideas also inspired the development of the SPGR method.

Levels of SPGR

There are SPGR tools developed for individual, group and organizational level. The tools support methods for developmental work in line with SPGR theory on each of the three legvels.

SPGR tools from all levels are integrated and used together with true and tried methods. Through the combination of tools and methods, the change management programs can scale from individual efforts up to wide-spanning transformation processes.

All consultants using SPGR tools and methods have gone through an authorization process and received certification.

SPGR-HUMRES (Organisation)

The 'psychological budget' of an organization is as important as its production and finance budgeting. However, the follow-up to a 'psychological budget' should not be limited to evaluation of its practical results, but also motivate and ensure learning. The lack of such targeted reviewing of results could have dramatic negative consequences. To prevent such, SPGRHUMRES comprises a set of tools to monitor the development of human capital. These tools have been continuously improved through years of practical application in companies all over the world.

SPGR-TEAM (Group)

The workgroup (department or project) is the primary building block of any organization. The key to success in any change or development process is control over the group dynamics within every workgroup. SPGRTEAM is a set of tools for analyzing group relations, role systems, group emotions, polarization and overall effectiveness within each and every workgroup involved in the process of change. Summarizing reports provide an overview of the process.

SPGR360+ (Individual)

It is widely accepted today that the training of a manager apart from his/her team is of little or no value. SPGR360+ reports are designed to aid personal development or management training by means of so-called 360 degrees assessments. The feedback is based not only on self-rating by the individual under assessment, but also on ratings by colleagues, subordinates and superordinates. SPGR360+ was the first of such tools on the market, and is still the only one capable of assessing leadership in relation to the situation to be lead. Special polarization analyses has been developed to assist in conflict resolution.

SPGR tools on all levels are used together with proven intervention techniques. By carefully connecting appropriate tools to effective techniques, we are able to adjust the use of SPGR from single intervention to enterprise-wide transformation programs. Every consultant using SPGR tools and methods has gone through an intensive authorization program.
